    DescriptionThe decoration on this plate, which includes a garden scene complete with a fence placed asymmetrically in the lower right corner around a fantastic rock amid flowering plants, would have appealed as much to Chinese as European taste. The promitory in the central left side of the plate shows a pair of wading birds, suggesting that the open undecorated space on the plate may make reference to a body of water. French Sinologists in the 19th century named this type of decoration famille rose, in recognition of the predominate rose color of the palate.
