DescriptionLarge spouted jars such as this one have been found to contain the residue of a frothy chocolate drink, used in feasts and ceremonies. A batten was used to stir and froth the chocolate, which was poured from the spout in a long stream to even further aerate the drink. The wax-resist decoration on this jar indicates it is from the Usulután area of eastern El Salvador/western Honduras. On View
