    DescriptionJewelry was used throughout Mesoamerica as an important indication of status. This necklace is constructed using beads and pendants made from opulent materials including rock crystal, spondylus shell, pyrite, and jadeite. Jade celts, necklaces, and other luxury artifacts of Olmec style and manufacture have been found throughout Mesoamerica in regions as distant as Honduras and Central Mexico. The wide distribution of such objects is an important indication of the great prestige attached to the ideology and crafts of the Olmec, a culture that helped shape the traditions of many later societies including the Maya and the Aztecs.
