DescriptionAlfredo de Stéfano is one of the few Latin American photographers to have systematically photographed landscape, and the only one to have focused exclusively on the desert. His mere choice of habitat subverts most motivations for photographing the landscape. The desert is an inhospitable place whose barrenness hides the fact that it was once fertile and green. Human intervention has increased the size of deserts and is one of the insights that guide de Stéfano’s work. His work with desert landscapes constantly evolves, overriding the photograph and the very landscape itself with the incorporation of site-specific installations.
