DescriptionAlthough distances from Tiahuanaco in Bolivia to coastal Huari sites in Peru seem far apart, both Wendell Bennett (Bennett 1934) and Carlos Ponce Sangines suggested that Huari was the result of an expansionist Tiahuanaco culture around 700. Huari vessels found at Conchapata, Robles Moqo, and Pacheco sites show Tiahuanaco influence. At Pacheco, large caches of face vessels were found, along with modelled feet and hands, which appear to have been ritually broken (A. Jimenez Borja 1984). The shape of the vessel is typical of Tiahuanaco and the relief design of the face resembles faces on large Tiahuanaco sculpture.On View
