DescriptionThe inscription on the bottom of this painting indicates that it was made for the Qingwei Shan temple. The inscription lists a number of temple officials, including the chief monk who may have been responsible for commissioning this work. The sitter is not identified. The painting depicts a monk or holy man seated beneath a pine tree on a rock platform of the type on which lohan or holymen were commonly depicted in art. Behind the sitter and in the distance there is a river and a mountain range framed by the sky.- Art of Asia
