DescriptionDebbie Rose Myers’ work “is based on recognizable signs, but (they) gain their meaning within a historical context med-iated by current social belief systems.” She utilizes the contemporary technology of the computer to compose her work, but her tale of subjugation and retribution is of Biblical proportion. Cliché images related to gender and role playing - woman as bathing beauty, woman as housewife, woman belittled - describe a social history of feminine domination and dependence. In the artist’s view, gender discrimination has prevailed throughout the ages, breeding nothing but anger and the degeneracy/decay of society, which, in turn, courts the fire and brimstone of retribution.
