DescriptionThis private devotional image was attributed by William E. Suida to Bergognone on the basis of the vignettes in the background and figural types (are these common themes/styles in Bergognone works). When exhibited in 1958, the painting was assigned to an anonymous, late fifteenth-century Lombard master. The awkward handling of the anatomy, drapery folds, and goldwork suggested to Fern R. Shapley the work of a provincial follower of Bergognone.
