DescriptionThis cotton hair ribbon comes from the village of San Miguel Totonicapán, where women often wrap their hair in elaborate ribbons decorated with tassels. Cintas are made on a small treadle loom known as a ribbon loom. The weaver uses a tapestry technique which leaves small gaps where colors meet. This particular piece is highly decorated and features two human figures participating in a sort of dance, and they may even be holding guns—a rare choice of decoration.
