    Visual Description

This vertical lithographic print features three subjects in a misty landscape, rendered in soft grays and browns. At our lower right kneels a plump, seemingly nude figure with a wide bald head and gray-brown skin, highlighted around the legs and rump with rusty red. Chin raised, lips shut, the figure kneels on a sandy hill glancing back over their shoulder toward our left. There, in our lower lefthand corner, a stern face emerges from a column of light gray cloud. With a long nose, thin lips, and knit brow, the face stares toward our upper right where a head in the cloud meets its gaze. The head takes shape in a blanket of mottled gray clouds, its features dark and blurred. Between the three, near the center of the print, the clouds appear to part, revealing a hazy strip of blue horizon. There, a triangular shadow emerges from a murky blanket, perhaps a sail or the fin on the back of a shark.
