    DescriptionThis mask retains stone and shell inlays that accentuate the eyes and teeth. Large black pupils made of the volcanic stone obsidian animate its appearance in a manner that sets this mask apart from the other two examples in the exhibition. The oval form of the face and arched eyebrows lend a gentler overall appearance but the strong nose remains a prominent feature, as in all the Teotihuacan masks. The great ritual power of these objects is exemplified within this mask, which vividly preserves a living and expressive appearance.
