DescriptionThe Chinese have long admired strange shape rocks, which reminded them of some of the fantastic mountains in China. Rocks, particularly from the Lake Tai region, were collected and artfully enhanced by the craftsman’s hand for the gardens of the wealthy scholar-officials or literati. Small-scale versions were also carved and avidly collected to decorate the inside of the literati’s studio.
