    DescriptionThe Moche potters recorded life as it occurred so that many vessels are visual records of physical anomolies. These include dwarfism, harelips, hunchbacks, and deformities related to congenital disease, as well as manipulated cranial deformations. Although it is unknown if syphillis existed in ancient Peru, this figure appears to have a symptom of congenital deformity referred to as "saddle nose," in which the eyes are spaced wide apart and are misshapen.
